"O Josh, muito goode!"
Six years ago Josh's host dad Pedro coined a phrase, half Portugese, half English. "Muito" means "very" or "extremely."
“Goode” is the way a Brazilian would pronounce the English word "good." It involves a "j" sound for the "d" and an "ee" sound on the end of everything. He thought it was hilarious.
"Muito goode, Josh!" he said and laughed every time.
Fifteen years ago, I (Elyssa) traveled to Brazil with the White River Youth Choir from Muncie, IN, USA. Though our stay was only three weeks, the lasting impressions of this friendly culture and hospitable people (not to mention the food and music - churrasco and samba, anyone?) directed me toward a pursuit of language and travel that never left my heart.
We are now en route to Sao Paulo, and eventually to the eager arms of Josh's host family in Porto Alegre, ready for our three week vacation to begin! We have a layover in Sao Paulo tomorrow and then we fly into Curitiba to stay for a few days with Barbara. Barbara is a Brazilian exchange student who went to Ball State through the same program, Partners for the Americas, that sent Josh and me both to Porto Alegre.

I just read your muito goode entry to Dave as we wind down for the evening. He happens to be reading a design magazine on a page that is talking about a design firm in ...you guessed it...Sao Paulo!
